Last Quilt Along Entry

In case you missed it, the Spring Quilt Along is over and, while I didn't win one of the prizes, my quilt was featured by the organizer Above All Fabric.

You can check it out and see the winners here.

Beach Mod Completed

My Circa 60 Beach Mod quilt is pieced, quilted and bound!  This one was a big one (literally and figuratively) for me.  It was the first one that I machine quilted completely on my own machine, and while the quilting is simple - diagonals across each block - I'm pretty happy with out it turned out.

The inner border is Kona Snow and the outer is Kona Emerald.  The batting on this quilt is also 100% organic.  The backing is pieced with the Snow, Emerald and some Kona Chocolate.  These warm colors were a nice compliment to the bold patterns of the blocks.

The front started with a fat quarter stack of the Circa 60 prints.  I used what few leftovers I had from the front and pieced together the back.  I think that the bottom worked out perfectly to frame my little quilt label.

This quilt label is very simple to make and was completed using the same technique here.

I'm pretty happy with this completed quilt and I hope that Mom, Dad and Baby will be able to enjoy it for a long, long time.

The AI Finale

Did you watch the finale tonight?  I just finished and even voted once or twice.  Who did you like?  Who do you think will win?

I had to go with Lauren.  She brought a tear to my eye with her final song and I'm 100% sure that I was not the only one feeling a bit emotional with her performance.  I love George Strait and I love Pam Tillis, but Lauren's Maybe it was Memphis was a much better live performance.

Oh yea, and I went back to check some of my early predictions.  Not too shabby, I must say.  Check them out here.

There has been a lot of Carrie Underwood love lately.  I'm putting 2 to 1 odds that she duets tomorrow with Lauren.  I'm hoping they get Josh Turner back to perform with Scotty, he's pretty cool.  Also looking forward to perhaps a Casey-Hailey duet.  They are just so cute!

Surfboards, Guitars and Trailers, oh my

Hi people!  Took a mini-hiatus but I'm back with a new quilt project.  This one is for one of my best good buddies who is having her first baby (a boy) in just a few short weeks.  While he wanted a sports theme and she wanted an ocean theme, they compromised on a surf theme for the baby room.  Lucky for me, this decision was made pretty early in the pregnancy so I was able to scope out some appropriate fabrics.

When I stumbled upon Circa 60 by Monaluna, I knew it was the one.  Not only does this fabric have great, bold colors, it's also 100% organic (and I knew Mom would appreciate that.)  The fabric features owls, seagulls, surfboards, sun and some super cool VW bus and airstream trailer prints.  (Did you know I'm a sucker for fabrics that feature any sort of trailer?)

So here are the blocks up on my design wall.  With such big novelty prints, I went with a simple brick like block in alternating directions.  At this point I was debating the addition of any sashing, but it was so large already, I skipped it.

When the blocks for the front were all cut and pieced, I had just a few scraps left over, so I cut them into small 3 1/2 inch squares to use on the back.  Here they are ready to be randomly pieced into a row.

You can dance!

Do you ever wish your life was like the movie Mamma Mia?  You're facing the biggest problems in your life where nothing feels right when suddenly your two best friends break into an Abba song and dance?  To top it all off, this happens with the most gorgeous Greek landscape you can imagine in the background.  Sounds pretty nice.

I'm just saying.

Completed Quilt Along

Here it is, all finished!  It's the Spring Quilt Along with Nicey Jane.  This completes my first quilt along.  The finished top was even featured on the Quilt Along's blog here.  Exciting, I know.

Big thanks to my DH for snapping these photos.  We took a trip to Napa not too long ago and did a little wine tasting at Sterling Vineyards.  This lovely tree lined street is the entrance/exit to the winery.
Sterling is one of my favorite places for wine tasting in Napa.  Not only do you get to enjoy a tasting of several of their wines, but you get an entire experience of the winery.  It starts with a gondola ride up the hill to the winery itself.  The views are spectacular!  You are immediately greeted with a glass (and I was carded!) and then you take off on your own walking tour.  By your third tasting you are at a beautiful patio overlooking the vineyards and hills, relaxing and taking in the cool spring weather.  How can you beat it?
